Tarot - What is it?

Tarot is believed to have originated in Northern Italy in the mid 15th century.  It is a form of  fortune telling and divination and gives new meaning to the phrase "a picture is worth a thousand words".  Tarot consists of 78 cards divided into two groups:  the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana.  The Major Arcana consists of 22 cards and depicts the archetypal journey through life.  The Minor Arcana consists of 56 cards and shows everyday events.

The Tarot opens your intuitive sense and reveals what is really happening below the surface of events surrounding us. The 78 cards represent every emotion we will experience, every lesson that needs to be learned and every condition possible to know.  The tarot is more than a tool for answering your questions - it helps you become more aware of why you behave the way you do.

  1. Tarot has been "revived" and popularized by the gypsies, who adapted it from ancient times. Since then, tarot reading has been an important activity for many countries. Even monarchs and rulers are known to be enthusiasts in tarot cards.
